Team,
I was only able to watch the end of the second period and the third period of your game against Mora.
I know it isn't much fun when the score is one sided, but I saw some good things in the third period.
The team displayed determination and purpose. You wanted to make a difference with each shift.
You should be proud of that, for it is far easier to do those things when you have the momentum of a lead then when you are too far behind to win.
This is what champions are made of.
This is being a team and never giving up.
You're becoming a team. Be proud of that.
Work on the little things, chiping a puck off the boards, winning the race to the puck, never giving up your position, winning the face off and controlling the puck for a few more milli-seconds each time you have possession.
Each play is a small game within the period. Win the small games and you will win the period. Win three periods and you win the game.
If you are winning the plays, then the rest will take care of itself.
Be proud of how you fought back during the thrid period on Sunday and carry that determination into the next practice and then the next period.
Here is a true story to ponder.
Scott Bjugstad (MN Born player) was playing on the LA Kings with Wayne Gretzky.
He noticed Wayne always had the same attitude on the bench whether he scored a goal, got scored on, was winning or losing.
Scott asked Wayne why he never got frustrated.
Wayne told him that it was because all that really matters is your next shift and he focused on making his next shift his best.
It is true that Wayne Gretzky also knew that for every 5 shots on goal he scored on 3 of them. So he knew if he missed a shot then chances were 75% that on his next shift if he took a shot on goal he was going to score.
So my question for each of you is this.
Did Gretzky have a great attitude because he was so good,...or was he so good because he had a great attitude?
